The Spectrum Patrol Car (SPC) was initially manufactured in 1968 and remained in production until 1975. Its original version was red, reflecting the colour of the TV model, with later models available in bronze. The front wings featured indents, likely representing air intakes or vents. Initially, a sticker on the box boasted “First Again! Jet Engine Sound,” which later versions had printed directly onto the box. The car boasted a ‘Jet Engine Sound’ activated by pushing down on the rear while pushing forward. This sound was generated by a large gear attached to a pinion, which rotated a shaft carrying a pressed steel flywheel. When pressure was released from the rear axle, the flywheel spun freely, causing a spring steel “clicker” to produce a whining noise against the pinion. This sound was then amplified by the white plastic soundbox, securely riveted in place.
