Salvador Ysart began his glass blowing career in Barcelona before moving to France around 1909. Amid World War I, he relocated to Scotland with his family in 1915 and joined Moncrieff’s North British Glassworks in 1922, focusing on laboratory glass production with his son Paul. With the decline in demand for traditional crystal cut glass, Isobel Moncrieff recognized the commercial potential of Salvador’s vase design, leading to the creation of “Monart Ware” in 1924. Initially, production was sporadic but gained popularity, with the range sold at Liberty’s in London and exported to Australia and North America.
